We are pleased to announce this year’s Dress for the Cause Top Fundraiser!

Westside Secondary School is the top fundraiser for five consecutive years!

SARNIA, Ont., March 5, 2020 – The Breast Cancer Society of Canada (BCSC) is pleased to announce Westside Secondary School, in Orangeville, Ontario is the top fundraiser for the 2019 Dress for the Cause.

Every October companies, schools and organizations from across Canada take part in Dress for the Cause by hosting local, individual fundraising events, supporting Breast Cancer Awareness month! To date, Dress for the Cause has raised more than $10 Million for Canadian breast cancer research.

Westside Secondary School hosted “Pink Day,” the School’s largest spirit day of the year, inviting their entire community for a pancake breakfast starting at 7:00 am. The festivities continue throughout the day with students selling pink hair highlights, pink painted nails, cotton candy, cupcakes and Pink Day merchandise.

During the afternoon’s Pink Day assembly, teachers and students challenge one another to raise money. Several students collected donations and bravely had their heads shaved and donated their hair to make wigs for cancer patients.

Westside Secondary School raised $19,444 during this year’s Pink Day, and is Canada’s top Dress for the Cause fundraiser for the fifth year in a row! This brings the school’s cumulative donation total to more than $170.000!

“Congratulations to Westside Secondary School Students, Faculty, Administration and their community for another successful Pink Day! We are delighted to award the title of top Dress for the Cause fundraiser in Canada to Westside once again. Thank you for your continued support of our mission to save lives through breast cancer research,” Kimberly Carson, CEO of BCSC.

In honour of Westside’s accomplishment, The Breast Cancer Society of Canada will make a $5,000 donation on behalf of the School to The Headwaters Health Care Centre – a local cancer treatment centre.

“Participating in Pink Day is a tremendous experience and we are humbled to have won again! To see our students donate their time and talents to support such a worthy cause is truly overwhelming and shows what we can accomplish when we all work together,”
Christine Kirkland, Westside Secondary School teacher and the annual event’s longtime coordinator.

Thanks to the generous support of donors like Westside, BCSC continues to fund patient-focused research – encouraging collaboration among physicians and researchers committed to improving diagnosis and treatment for breast cancer patients. Only through research will a cure be found.
