Thank you to everyone who supported the Walk-a-Thon to Mother’s Day powered by Cleo in support of Breast Cancer Canada this past spring.
We are grateful to those who participated virtually from coast to coast – and everyone who joined us in person at our Mississauga event on Mother’s Day.
We extend our deep appreciation to everyone who participated, donated, and volunteered. Our collective efforts are funding Canadian researchers across the country. Advancements in early detection and personalized treatment are within reach.

Breast Cancer Canada would like to extend a special thanks and congratulations to our top three individual fundraisers:
1. Lauren Kehl, Toronto ON – Raised $7,403
Lauren Kehl, the top fundraiser, was diagnosed with stage two hormone-positive breast cancer last year at age 37. Under the care of Princess Margaret Cancer Centre, Lauren underwent a bilateral mastectomy and radiation therapy.
“I’ve witnessed firsthand the progress that has been made in treatment over the past 10 years and I want to do my part to further breast cancer research. It’s my wish that anyone else who has to undergo breast cancer treatment in the future will receive the best care and most personalized treatment possible. Breast cancer isn’t one diagnosis – there are over 50 different types. More progress is needed for the 1 in 8 women who will have breast cancer in their lifetime.”
Breast Cancer Canada made a donation of $5,000 to the Princess Margaret Cancer Centre to acknowledge Lauren’s efforts.
2. Cara Beson, Gander, NL – Raised $6,715
With close to 100 donations made in her honour, Cara walked daily up until May 12 as a recovery and mind therapy for herself. Her primary purpose (beyond fundraising!) was sharing her journey and bringing awareness to breast cancer. Cara is constantly reminding her friends and family to book their routine mammograms this spring.

The Regional Cancer Centre in Gander received a $2,500 donation to acknowledge the contributions made by Cara.
3. Lorie Crawford, Edmonton, AB – Raised $3,420
Lorie has been an incredible force in fundraising, emerging as a top fundraiser this spring for Breast Cancer Canada. Above she is in a photo of her after her final chemo treatment, a special moment. After taking a year off during her breast cancer treatments and surgery, Lorie returned to work full-time in January.
Recently, she decided to step back from a 40-hour work week to 20 hours a week, wanting to enjoy life to its fullest.
Lorie chose Edmonton’s Cross Cancer Institute to be awarded $1,000 in her name.
Lorie turned 65 last week. Happy Birthday Lorie!
