As part of our ongoing commitment to patient education and empowerment, we recently hosted a virtual webinar on the Risk of Recurrence on Wednesday, December 17th. The session brought together leading experts and patient voices to address one of the most common and least discussed concerns following breast cancer treatment.
Why this conversation mattered
Recurrence remains a significant concern for many patients, and our recent patient survey and Canadian public opinion poll highlighted clear gaps in information and support. Seventy percent of Canadians reported that information about recurrence is not widely available. Nearly half of patients felt only somewhat prepared to understand recurrence after treatment, while 24 percent felt not prepared at all. Sixty percent shared that they did not receive resources about recurrence from their care team.
This webinar was designed to help close those gaps by offering clear, practical, and evidence-based guidance in an accessible format.
During the 60-minute session, participants heard about the different types of breast cancer recurrence, the factors that influence individual risk, and how tools such as genomic testing can inform care. The discussion also addressed common misconceptions, practical steps patients can take to advocate for themselves, and where current research is making progress.
