Breast Cancer Canada welcomes the Government of Canada’s announcement of the National Advisory Committee on Preventive Health Services and its commitment to evidence-based, transparent, and equitable preventive health care.
Preventive health guidelines have a profound impact on the health outcomes of Canadians. For breast cancer patients, screening recommendations can influence when cancers are detected, treatment options available, and ultimately, patient outcomes.
Today, we are encouraged by the Committee’s commitment to incorporating diverse expertise, patient perspectives, and health equity considerations into its work. Effective guideline development requires not only methodological rigour, but also meaningful engagement with clinical experts, researchers, and those with lived experience.
Canada has the research expertise, clinical leadership, and patient voices needed to transform breast cancer care. As the new Committee begins its work, there is an important opportunity to ensure that emerging evidence, advances in screening technologies, and the realities faced by patients across diverse populations are reflected in future recommendations.
Breast Cancer Canada looks forward to continuing our work alongside government, clinicians, researchers, and patient advocates to help advance preventive health policies that improve outcomes and ensure all Canadians can benefit from the latest evidence and innovations in care.” – Kimberly Carson, CEO, Breast Cancer Canada
